What is "EBS" for HGV trailers?
EBS is an acronym for Electronic Braking System.
EBS is an updated version of the older ABS (Anti-lock Braking System).
The EBS operates via an electronic control signal from the brake pedal sensors that is electronically processed in the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) and then sent to the pressure control modules with practically no time delay.
EBS is a significant improvement on the older ABS system but requires an active ISO 7638 connection to the tractor unit. A loss of ISO 7638 connection (often referred to as the EBS coupling) will result in a failure of the EBS functionality and the trailer defaults to standard, full air-signal braking.
