What does a Pownall Valve do?

A Pownall (roll-away) valve acts as a safety valve in the air brake system. It monitors pressure in the service brake line and helps ensure the parking brakes remain applied if there is an unexpected loss of air, reducing the risk of an uncontrolled roll-away.

How does it help prevent roll-away?

If the service brake circuit suddenly loses pressure due to a leak, burst hose, or accidental disconnection, the valve reacts to that pressure drop and supports the continued application of the parking brakes rather than allowing them to release.

Where is a Pownall Valve typically fitted?

It is commonly installed close to the park/shunt valve, as this is the control point for applying and releasing the parking brakes and the most logical location to protect against pressure loss in that part of the system.

Returning an item

If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, we can offer an exchange or refund in line with the policy below.

  • Changed your mind: Items may be returned within 14 days of purchase, provided they are unused, complete, in their original packaging, and in resaleable condition.
  • Faulty or misdescribed goods: Faulty or misdescribed goods should normally be reported within 1 month of purchase. This timeframe does not affect your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Conditions of return

  • Items must be complete and returned in their original packaging
  • A 10% handling charge may apply to returns where you have changed your mind
  • Items manufactured or supplied correctly to order cannot be returned
  • Doors specifically ordered and supplied correctly cannot be returned
  • Return postage costs are not covered

Proof of purchase

A valid Invoice showing the item, transaction details, cost, and date of purchase is required. A printed bank or credit card statement is also acceptable.

Order shortages

Any order shortages must be reported to the Don-Bur Parts Department within 3 working days of delivery.
