Low Bridge Detection System (LBDS)
The Low Bridge Detection System (LBDS) has been designed to help prevent bridge strikes by providing advanced warnings to drivers of high vehicles approaching low clearance structures.
How It Works
Using GPS data and an onboard database of low bridge locations, the system monitors the vehicle’s route and alerts the driver in real time if they are approaching a bridge that may be too low for their vehicle's height. The system considers the programmed height of the vehicle to determine if a warning is necessary.
Key Features
- Real-Time Alerts: Audible and visual warnings notify the driver when approaching a potentially hazardous low bridge.
- Custom Vehicle Height Setting: Height threshold can be configured based on the specific vehicle to ensure accuracy.
- Built-in GPS and Mapping: Continuously tracks location and references a national low bridge database.
- Driver-Focused Interface: Simple on-screen display and dashboard-mounted alerts improve ease of use and visibility.
- Compact Design: Sleek, unobtrusive module suitable for various commercial vehicle types.
Benefits
- Reduces risk of bridge collisions and costly vehicle or infrastructure damage
- Enhances driver awareness and decision-making
- Supports fleet compliance and safety initiatives
- Helps maintain operator reputation and minimise downtime
Installation & Compatibility
The system is designed for easy installation and is compatible with a wide range of HGVs, LGVs, and other high-sided commercial vehicles. It can be fitted as part of a safety package or as a standalone preventative solution.
Applications
- Distribution and logistics fleets
- Municipal and public service vehicles
- Specialist high-load transport
If you operate tall vehicles in areas with low bridges, this detection system can provide a vital extra layer of safety and help avoid costly mistakes.
