How the Parksafe Low Bridge Detection System Works
The Parksafe Low Bridge Detection System (LBDS) is designed to provide an additional warning when a high commercial vehicle is approaching a bridge or structure that may not provide sufficient clearance.
The system uses GPS positioning together with an onboard database of low bridge locations. The vehicle's overall travelling height is programmed into the system so that potential hazards can be assessed against the current vehicle configuration.
As the vehicle travels, its position is monitored against known low-clearance structures. Where the programmed vehicle height indicates that an approaching bridge may present a risk, the system can issue visual and audible warnings to the driver.
Driver Alerts and Vehicle Height Settings
The LBDS uses an in-cab display to provide the driver with information and warnings when a potential low-bridge conflict is identified. Audible alerts provide an additional prompt where driver attention is required.
The vehicle-height threshold can be configured to suit the particular vehicle. Correct height information is therefore important, particularly where vehicle, body, trailer or load configurations change.
