Maple SafeConnect – Trailer Coupling Safety Device

features -> safety

SafeConnect is a trailer-mounted safety device that protects drivers and prevents trailer rollaways during the coupling process. It ensures the trailer’s brakes remain fully engaged until the driver is back in the cab and has applied the foot brake.

Key Features

  • Prevents trailer rollaway
Ensures the brakes stay applied during coupling, eliminating the risk of unintended trailer movement.
  • Protects the driver during coupling
Prevents the release of air to the emergency (red) line until it is safe to do so, removing the risk of crush injuries when connecting airlines.
  • Failsafe operation
The system is mechanical, robust, and does not rely on complex electronics. A manual override is included as standard.
  • Integrates with existing coupling procedures
No change to driver routine. The device operates in the background without additional steps for the driver.
  • Fully trailer-mounted
There is no requirement to modify or wire into the tractor unit. The system is entirely self-contained on the trailer.

How It Works

During coupling, the trailer’s emergency line is often connected before the service line. If the red line is live, this can release the trailer’s spring brakes too early — before the service line is connected or the driver is back in the cab — creating a serious rollaway hazard.

SafeConnect intercepts this process. It physically prevents air from passing to the emergency line until the driver applies the foot brake in the cab. Only then are the brakes released, ensuring the trailer remains securely braked throughout the procedure.

Fleet Benefits

  • Enhances health and safety compliance
  • Reduces accident risk and near-miss incidents
  • Suitable for all trailer types with standard air brake systems
  • Already proven in use across major UK fleets
