Telematics Systems for Connected Fleets

Telematics features enable remote monitoring, tracking and data collection from trailers and rigid bodywork. Systems typically combine GPS location data, vehicle sensors and wireless communication to provide fleet operators with visibility of asset position, status and usage.

Depending on specification, telematics systems may monitor trailer location, door activity, axle loads, temperature, brake performance, tyre pressure, battery status or other operational parameters. The data can support compliance, operational efficiency and asset security by providing both real-time and historical insight.

Scope of Telematics Integration

Telematics may be integrated at build stage or retrofitted to existing equipment. Installations vary according to vehicle type, operational duty cycle and data requirements. Systems are typically configured to transmit information to a secure cloud platform, allowing fleet managers to access dashboards, alerts and reports.

Operational Applications

  • Asset tracking and geofencing
  • Load and axle weight monitoring
  • Temperature and environmental monitoring
  • Brake and safety system diagnostics
  • Door opening and security alerts
  • Battery and power system monitoring

Integration and Data Use

Telematics platforms can integrate with transport management systems and maintenance planning software. Data may be used to support preventative maintenance scheduling, utilisation analysis and performance benchmarking across fleets.

Where telematics systems are fitted, hardware selection, power supply arrangement and antenna positioning must be considered to ensure reliable operation and accurate data transmission.
